The OLED Switch officially hit store shelves a few days ago, giving it its full debut in the public space. Now that the units are out in the wild, people are discovering all kinds of interesting little quirks about the system. One thing that hadn’t been mentioned by Nintendo before is the fact that the system’s new large and dynamic display comes with an additional feature – a built-in screen protector.

This built-in screen protector may look like a removable film for some people. As a result, Nintendo included a caveat in the manual for the OLED Switch, stating that if anyone has the idea of trying to remove it, they absolutely must not do it. The reason is that this screen protector is different from the one you buy and install yourself. Rather than resting on the screen, allowing for easy installation and removal, this factory preinstalled screen protector is pretty much bound on the OLED Switch screen. As a result, trying to remove it will result in physical damage to the OLED Switch screen.

Stories on screen

In fact, the company officially calls it an “anti-diffusion adhesive film”. The OLED Switch actually features a glass panel rather than a plastic LCD display like the original Switch and Switch Lite. These screens were already prone to scratches due to their relatively small body.

The glass of the OLED Switch is much stronger, but this protective film will be useful in the event of a drop of a device and impact on the screen. Think of it the same way a tempered glass screen protector helps protect your phone’s screen. Speaking of which, you can still buy and install one of those for the OLED Switch without it interfering with the movie that’s already there.

If you think this is another one of those “Nintendo being Nintendo” moves, it actually isn’t. Other devices also come with such a protective film. Unfortunately, the first generation Samsung Galaxy Fold phones had a very obvious protective film that many people mistakenly tried to remove, which ended in disaster every time.

Samsung has managed to make the protective film both more durable and less noticeable in later versions of the Switch. Still, the OLED Switch is clearly just one of many devices to come with such a feature. Ultimately, it’s all in the name of safety and benefits the consumer.

Since the inception and rise of social media, the mental health of young people around the world has been at a lowest historical. This is not just a coincidence. Studies show that there is a clear link between the use of social media and increasing rates of anxiety and depression in adolescents, which comes as no surprise to many. As a society, we are collectively aware of how addictive social media is, yet we knowingly spend our free time scrolling into oblivion.

While wasting time is definitely a negative thing, it has more of an impact than just being a zombie that’s on the phone all day. Negative body image is just one of the many possible effects of social media engagement, especially on apps like Instagram or TikTok. Not only is it detrimental for young girls to compare themselves to others they see on these apps, but most of what they compare to isn’t even real. Photo editing and retouching apps like Facetune promote a false reality and standards of beauty that teens work hard to try to maintain. In addition, these apps are obviously populated with a disproportionate amount of fitness influencers compared to the general population, which distorts beauty standards and causes low self-esteem.

There is a saying in which I fully believe: “Comparison is the thief of joy. “I believe social media perpetuates this endlessly. Body image issues can contribute to the onset of many eating disorders, with anorexia nervosa being the deadliest mental illness known to date.

Although some may argue that social media brings people together, and to some extent it is, we need to be very aware of its negative effects. The University of Pennsylvania conducted a study which showed high uses of social media apps increase feelings of loneliness.

As previously reported, rates of depression and anxiety among young people in the United States have skyrocketed over the years. last years, and this can be partially attributed to social media, where people can present their lives in the most positive light. However, what many tend to forget is precisely this: people post what they want the world to see on their feed. A majority of photos posted on Instagram are posed and took over an hour to edit and think of an “appropriate” caption. Everything online is not what it seems.

From first-hand experience, I know how incredibly harmful the impacts of social media can be. I spent more time than I would like to admit watching other people’s flagship movies. What I didn’t understand was that most of what I saw was not my reality. Not understanding this concept made me feel that my life was inadequate and missing. I felt like my Instagram feed defined who I was, even though that just wasn’t the truth. Your Instagram feed or profile does not define you as a person. You don’t have to wear a mask to “fit in” on a social media app. Understanding this has been of tremendous benefit to my mental health. I no longer feel the need to update my Instagram or stress about the “persona” I am displaying.

It is difficult to determine a clear solution to end this epidemic and this addiction to social media. Technology companies will continue to do their job to find ways to make these apps even more addicting and hard to stop using. Social media, ultimately, is a Business, and its employees will find ways to profit from its users, no matter what. Despite this, I believe there are ways to reduce the negative side effects of using social media. What I hope students in the North East – as well as young people around the world – take away from this is that there is so much more to life than living through a screen. As students, we can all try to spend less time on our devices and more time outdoors with loved ones. These are examples of proven ways we can actively improve our sanity and prioritize free time on our phones. We can also promote mental health resources and do our part to have conversations or dialogue about these issues. It also acts for decrease stigma that continues to surround mental health. Northeastern also has a responsibility to advocate for the mental health of its students. To do this, University health and counseling services need further improvement. As a university, we have a responsibility to be kind to each other and realize that we don’t know what someone else might be going through.

One final reminder for anyone reading: you are worth enough and worth more than any number of likes or followers on Instagram. You don’t have to change yourself to better adapt to the norms perpetuated by social media. You deserve to feel happy with who you are.

You only use a swipe down from the home screen for one thing http://z17z17.com/you-only-use-a-swipe-down-from-the-home-screen-for-one-thing/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 09:36:30 +0000 http://z17z17.com/you-only-use-a-swipe-down-from-the-home-screen-for-one-thing/

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

One of the most underrated gestures is the ability to swipe down anywhere on the home screen, which gives you access to your notification shade, device search menu. or in the app drawer. This differs from swiping down from the top of the screen, which only activates the notification shadow.

We wondered what the point of that gesture on your phone was, however, when we posted a poll earlier this week. Here’s how you responded to it.

What is a simple swipe down from the Home screen good for?

Results

We released the poll on Tuesday, garnering over 1,200 votes at the time of writing. And it turns out that the vast majority of respondents (84.6%) say they use the single swipe down on the home screen to activate the notification panel.

This is not at all surprising, as many modern smartphones are quite tall, making it difficult to activate the notification shade from above. Reader reviews note that this is also a handy solution for getting quick settings in no time.

Almost 6% of readers surveyed say they don’t use the home screen swipe down at all. This was closely followed by those who say they use gesture to activate the device search feature, accounting for just over 5% of respondents.

Finally, a little more than 4% of the readers questioned declare that they use the gesture to activate something else. For what it’s worth, some Samsung phones use this gesture to activate the app drawer.

comments

  • Taaun: Samsung default setting on Galaxy S10: applications menu.
  • RichSPK: This opens the search for devices on my tablet, but I didn’t know that before reading this poll. I don’t expect to use it even now that I know it.
  • alex z: I have a Xiaomi MI 9, and I’m using the left side down swipe that opens the notification window and the right down side swipe that opens quick toggles (or whatever the name is ) in the same way as Iphones.
  • Thomas: I also use it to extend “quick settings”, bluetooth etc … one swipe down instead of two.
  • KBalaz: On my pixel I use it to quickly access settings, bluetooth, wifi, flashlight, airplane mode, do not disturb.
  • Albin: No surprise in the response statistics. Besides the notifications, I have six visible icons (Data, Wi-fi, DNDisturb, GPS, Bluetooth and Moto Mod battery) as well as the deeper toggles. My Launcher will open a tabbed and labeled app drawer (keeping the home screen clean for personal photos.)

Amazon Echo Show 10 cuts my screen time http://z17z17.com/amazon-echo-show-10-cuts-my-screen-time/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 02:05:00 +0000 http://z17z17.com/amazon-echo-show-10-cuts-my-screen-time/

Anytime my iPhone tells me about my screen time for the week, I could die of shame. What I really want to know is how much screen time I’m actively spending on Instagram, checking the weather or looking on Facebook, and how long I’m just looking in apps to find the information I have. need. Because I spend a lot of time doing this.

Could I organize my apps in folders to reduce this? Of course, I did this with my last phone. But it was still a timely exercise to find the folders and then find the applications in those folders. This level of organization was therefore not at the top of my list of priorities.

Recently I was asked if I wanted to try the Amazon Echo Show 10 to cut down on my screen time, which was a wild concept considering the product is, you know, a screen. But it absolutely worked. Here’s how.

Alarms

With me Amazon Echo Show 10, I wake up at the same time every morning of the week and I’m done with it. Before this device, I still checked that my alarm clock was set correctly every morning by checking it the day before. Sometimes I would wake up even in the middle of my sleep to check. It was this level of anxiety that kept me never sleeping once during my six years in the business, but it also undoubtedly increased my screen time.

I haven’t used my phone once for setting the alarm since I got the Amazon Echo Show 10. It displays your wake-up time at the top right of the screen, so just look at it to know that it is sure to ring the next morning. The alarm sound is also a lot less aggressive, and if I want it to stop, I just tell Alexa.

If I want to change it one morning? “Alexa, cancel my alarm clock for tomorrow.” Sorted.

Lights

I never thought of myself as a smart home type girl until my mom bought me my Outlets powered by Arlec WiFi for Christmas one year. She wanted to cut down on the time I spent worrying if my hair straightener was turned off after I left home (if you know, you know). The problem is, I was stuck at home for most of 2021, so I couldn’t really use it for the reason she gave it to me. Instead, I was lying in my bed, hopping into the GridConnect app, and turning off my lights that way.

But now? Now I say “Alexa, turn off the lights” and it does the job for me, no wrist activity required. All I had to do was set up single sign-on in my Alexa app to my Grid Connect app, and the lazy world is my oyster.

News, music and a general morning routine

It’s not uncommon for me to wake up and scroll through my phone to see what I missed during the night before my wrists are even fully awake. Instead, I say “Alexa, start my day” and she walks me through the motions. In the Alexa app, under “Routines”, I created a “Start My Day” system that gives me what I would usually use my phone for in the morning.

For me, that includes a fun fact from Alexa, a look at new emails I’ve received, a quick news update (you can choose which channel you want from) and a bit of Spotify chvrches as music to get ready for the day.

Amazon Echo Show 10 Verdict

amazon echo show 10
Image: Amazon

Are there many other functions that you could use Amazon Echo Show 10 for? One thousand percent. You can use it for cooking (this is where the screen comes in really handy, as it follows you with a motion sensor), to help you fall asleep with soothing sounds, or to amplify your smart home with things like smart blinds – to name a few.

Like all technology and just normal humans, she can have a hard time every now and then with management or trying to answer a certain question. It takes some getting used to if you’ve never ventured down this path before. The setup process is also a bit tedious, but short term pain for long term gain you know?

What I can tell you is that just scratching the surface, I already love my digital assistant. I might be late for the smart device game, but I’m so glad I joined.

I love you, Alexa.

You can pre-order Amazon Echo Show 10 for $ 399 on Amazon here.

How the Screen Neck Affects Our Children and Adolescents Family Forum http://z17z17.com/how-the-screen-neck-affects-our-children-and-adolescents-family-forum/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 00:03:00 +0000 http://z17z17.com/how-the-screen-neck-affects-our-children-and-adolescents-family-forum/

I am a massage therapist, but first and foremost I am a mom. I believe that children are the future, and I want the best for future generations.

One of the ways I think we can achieve this is to help our children develop healthy habits and prepare them to be successful from a young age against the pressures of technology, both mentally and physically.

Something I continually see in my young patients is screen addiction. This leads to many symptoms including social disconnection, tightness in the body, and most notably, a screened neck (repeatedly falling head while using electronic devices).

Screens may be the norm, but they have a huge impact on our children, for example by changing their young bodies. The screen neck creates a seal in the occipital cranial base (OCB) area at the top of the neck and turns into a head, curving the spine similar to a bump.

In the early years, this curvature may not be obvious, but as a person grows and ages, it may become more so. It also creates tension and pain in the mid-back, neck, hips, forearms, and hands, affecting range of motion.

Massage and Craniosacral Therapy (CST) are both great tools to help with muscle and nerve contraction. CST is perhaps even more valuable than massage for patients with screen neck, as it helps muscles and nerves adjust and achieve better anatomical alignment, reducing impact on the neck. .

If your child is showing signs of a screen neck, I strongly encourage you to schedule a massage or CST session for them. Here are some other suggestions:

● Challenge your child to take regular breaks away from the screen (if possible, 24 hours or more away from the screen once a week).

● Wait until they have finished the great culture to buy them a smartphone (end of college or high school). If a phone is needed, get them a flip phone.

● Involve them in extracurricular activities (eg, sports, dancing or music). Take the time to do these activities with your child.

● Prepare a standing desk for your child.

● Teach them the correct alignment of the spine while standing and help them remember to do it while sitting.

● Prevent your students from doing homework on the easy-to-slump couch on their Chromebooks. It is best to sit or stand at a desk.

● Participated in my yoga class (every Thursday at 9 am at the Many Waters wellness center in Walla Walla).

Finally, my most important tip is this: be an example and practice the above yourself. Teach your kids to avoid the screen neck by following your own advice first. The rest will follow.

Apple could create a revolutionary iPhone with a roll-up screen http://z17z17.com/apple-could-create-a-revolutionary-iphone-with-a-roll-up-screen/ Thu, 07 Oct 2021 21:29:00 +0000 http://z17z17.com/apple-could-create-a-revolutionary-iphone-with-a-roll-up-screen/

Rumors from various sources continue to share details about Apple’s alleged foldable iPhone. That Apple is developing such a device is not at all surprising. Everyone in the industry is developing handsets with foldable screens, Samsung being the best example. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are also the best possible foldable handsets that money can buy right now. And reports say Apple is testing prototypes featuring both designs. On top of that, Apple may be working on an iPhone with a foldable screen that has a different name: a roll-up screen. Roll-up phones are handsets with foldable OLED screens that roll around one of the corners. We’ve already seen a few concepts, the best of which comes from Chinese smartphone maker Oppo.

A foldable handset could feature a tablet-like design, like the Fold 3, with the screen inside. Huawei has made similar foldable phones with a foldable display on the outside. The Flip 3 is a clamshell device that is the same size when opened as a traditional handset. The main screen is also inside. These foldable handsets have hinges that allow both sides to open and close. The flexible screen folds and unfolds using this hinge.

Roll-up phones don’t have a hinge, but they still feature a flexible OLED panel that folds around an axis. It is also a type of foldable screen, because the screen folds. LG wanted to launch a Rollable phone this year, but then shut down its mobile business. Oppo’s roll-up handset remains the closest thing to a commercial device.

Roll-up iPhone

Apple filed a new patent application in June Apple Insider discovered. The application is the continuation of a patent granted to Apple entitled Electronic devices having sliding extendable screens.

Sliding extendable screens are another way of describing a roll-up phone. The screen would roll to the left or right, in which case. So you could say that the screen slides out as it gets bigger.

The fact that Apple has filed a continuation document seems to suggest that Apple is really interested in this particular type of design for future devices. The general language used in the patent could apply to foldable phone designs similar to those available from Android vendors.

But Apple’s designs focus on a design that involves a roll-up screen. When “folded”, part of the roll-up screen would be inside the phone. When “unfolded,” the screen would slide, rolling around an axis, along part of the phone’s frame.

As seen in these images, the technology Apple is envisioning here would be more suitable for a rollable phone than a foldable phone.

Rollable or foldable designs

One advantage that a roll-up iPhone would have over a foldable model is that it doesn’t crease in the middle where the hinge is present. But Apple should still make sure that the sliding metal structure that supports the screen is durable enough to prevent damage.

But foldable screens already have access to more durable foldable glass. It is not known if we will ever have rolling glass to protect rollable screens. Then again, Apple may already have access to the kind of glass replacement it could use in foldable and rollable iPhone designs.

That said, there’s no guarantee that Apple will make a rollable iPhone anytime soon. But the patent further proves that Apple is looking for phone-sized devices that can offer larger screens.

The iPad mini 6 is practically a large iPhone 13 Pro that does not support cellular calls. I said a few days ago that the iPad mini 6 is begging to be folded. But what if Apple made a rollable iPhone that you could turn into an iPad mini-like device?
